So, I watched Secret Love a while back, and I’m just now getting around to writing my review. Even though it’s been a few months, I still remember the drama very vividly—which is a good thing, right? I discovered this drama while watching a recap on YouTube. Whenever I watch recaps, I like to check out the first 2–3 minutes to see if I’m interested. I stop there so I don’t know too much and can still be surprised later.
This is also why I like to keep the recaps short here, so you can still enjoy the surprises. If you think I should make longer, more in-depth recaps, let me know by using the contact page here at the bottom of the page or messaging me on Instagram @Unnieandherdramas.
CAUTION: This review contains minor spoilers. I won’t dive deep into every character or storyline to avoid giving too much away. Instead, I’ll focus on the main characters while keeping the spoilers light.
After watching those 3 minutes of the recap on YouTube, I immediately googled the show. It giving Tyler Perry would write:
"An empathetic, giving woman works hard to help her boyfriend, who’s studying to become a lawyer, and his family, who doesn’t really like her. She volunteers to take the blame for a crime her lawyer boyfriend committed. Subsequently, he’s the one who sentences her."
You can’t tell me that’s not a Tyler Perry script! A good woman suffering at the hands of a wicked man? Classic Tyler Perry-core. Anyway, back to the show.

The story revolves around Yoo-Jung. She’s the daughter of a bakery owner and is hardworking, selfless, and caring—basically wifey material. She goes above and beyond in everything she does, whether it’s work, family, or relationships. I really enjoyed her character I love how resilient and optimistic she is. But she can be a bit of is a pusher over... cause I would not be cooking & cleaning for a mother who did not like.

Then there’s her boyfriend, Do-Hoon. He’s the son of a police officer and a stay-at-home mom who thinks her son can do no wrong. His mood is mainly remains neutral & below. I don’t know if law school made him this way because, from the flashbacks of when he and Yoo-Jung first met, he smiled a lot more and actually had life in his eyes. But in the present day, he just looks stressed and full of sorrow (even before the incident). Thank goodness you can't drag people through the screen cause I wanted to slap him like the whole entire series. He lived such a miserable life, that he created for himself..but was mad at everyone else.
One rainy night, Do-Hoon (the driver) and Yoo-Jung (the passenger) are driving back after celebrating his completion of law school over drinks. Do-Hoon gets into a hit-and-run accident, and Yoo-Jung decides to take the blame so she doesn’t jeopardize his career.

This is Min-Hyuk, the boyfriend of the hit-and-run victim. Of course, he takes this news extremely hard and makes it his priority to make Yoo-Jung’s life miserable because of the crime he thinks she did. Min-Hyuk is the firstborn son of a wealthy father who’s the president of a company. However, him and his father have a strained relationship. Although Min-yuk very much was a douchebag, still really enjoyed his character. I always cheer for the under dog and he had the most growth throughout the series.

The after effect of this crime revealed a lot of turmoil, people’s true colors, and an unexpected love story making it worth the watch!
Rating: 9/10
You should watch this if you love dramas that get you riled up in your emotions—mad, sad, happy—you’ll feel it all. The storyline is engaging and will tug at your heartstrings. Personally I think It started off a bit slow, and didnt really pick up until the fourth episode, but after that, I couldn’t wait for the next one!
