Lee Kyeong-Do

Episode 1

We are first introduced to Lee Kyeong-Do, who's a news reporter at an entertainment company. He's a diligent worker... a bit ditzy but still has his intelligence. Yes, I know ditsy and IQ don't correlate but often times people associate ditziness with an empty brain, when in reality ditzy people are probably processing a lot of intelligent/thoughtful thoughts making them look lost or confused on the outside. It's even worst in shows and dramas. If the character is disty they're usually just stereotyped as being dumb and nothing else. But Kyeong Do has layers, he's also pretty emotionally intelligent, gentle, and grounded.

Anyways Kyeong Do is covering a scandalous story that has to do with his ex,

Seo Ji-Woo

who's is a heiress married to a high ranking public figure. Ji Woo isn't your typical heiress though. She's not arrogant or think she's above anyone, She's a free spirit that's a bit bossy with a sharp tongue and is kind of out-of-touch with reality.

So How Did They Meet?

They met back in college at a theatre/acting club registration table. But they noticed each other before that.

Ji Woo noticed Kyeong Do first when she was waiting outside of her friend's university. While reaching into his pocket for his phone, change fell out and he was looking for every single cent that fell. She was smitten by that/him and from then made it her mission to pursue him.

Kyeong do noticed Ji Woo when she was sitting at the registration table. She was the reason he signed up for the club. He was amazed by her beauty. They both were interested in each other from the first time they laid eyes on each other.

Remember when i said Ji Woo is a free spirit? Yeah... being a free spirit while born into a chaebol family is a recipe for disaster. Of course her mother hates it. Ms.Hyun (Ji Woo's mother) is a cold woman who's heavy on maintaining control, portraying a certain image and sticking to traditions. Which is not natural the flow of Ji Woo, causing Ji Woo to feel stifled and in my personal opinion I think it's why she's depressed. because she's forced to conform to a lifestyle that doesn't fulfil her soul. I broke down a similar dynamic on my other blog where I analyze life through film and series, you can read it here: Scribbled Papers It's still too early for me to tell though. So i'm not exactly sure if it's genetics or situational.

What's interesting is that Ji Woo's actually shares a lot of traits from her mother, she just channels them differently and softer. Her witty-ness and always having quick comebacks at the top of her head is a softer version of her mother's verbal harshness. Ji Woo's tendency to questioning everything, for example if Kyeong Do smiled she'll be like " Are you smiling because you want to be with me?", this stems from her mother being closed off. Since her mother was cold/doesn't talk to her much Ji Woo is left to read body language... and I think she's pretty good at it.

Backgrounds

In this episode we don't learn much about Kyeong Do's background. But we do know he's kept up with his friends that he met at the theatre/acting club in college, Park Se-Young, Cha Woo-Sik, and Lee Jeong-Min. So that let's us knows Kyeong Do is consistent.

Ji Woo and Kyeong Do Reunite

Kyeong Do

Ji Woo and Kyeong Do reunite. Ji woo seems more happy about the reunion compared to Kyeong Do. They talk about her marriage and the article that Kyeong Do wrote. Ji Woo seems like she has no hard feelings and treating their interaction as if they never stopped talking. Kyeong Do on the other hand is very irritate with her... so irritated he eventually storms off after she suggests he writes another article about her divorce making her look good.

oh and while they were in the middle of catching up. Someone secretly snaps a photo of them together... it wasn't me i promise

Final Thoughts

I had a list of 4 kdramas that I was going to watch this month and this was one of the ones I didn't have any hopes for, but to my surprise i'm really enjoying this drama so far. I think it's because it has one of my favorite troupes: the sassy girl and her ladi back boyfriend. Also, it reminds me of those late 2000s -2010/15 dramas.

a rom com about a reporter (Park Seo-Jun) who reunites with his heiress ex (Won Ji-An) after covering scandal involving her cheating husband.

Plot:

First Impression

I'm going to be honest, I'm mainly watching this for Park Seo-Jun. I haven't watched anything of his in a while and the plot seems decent so i'm going to check it out.

Based on what I've seen from the promo videos/interviews they don't really have any chemistry. Also, I don't think Won Ji-an gives romance.

Episode 2

Seo Ji-Yeon

In episode 2 we are introduced to another one of Ji Woo's family member, her older sister Seo Ji-Yeon. Ji Yeon adores Ji Woo and is protective of her, especially when it comes to their mother. Ji Yeon has a high role in the family business (JARIM Apparel). She's also in a marriage she doesn't want to be like Ji Woo, but unlike Ji woo, she's not getting divorced. She seems not to mind carrying on the legacy and what comes with it to make her family look good. But surprisingly she's a sweetheart while doing it. Overall, she want the best for Ji Woo.

I'm glad that Ji woo and her sister has this dynamic as opposed to the sister kissing the mother's behind. Cause that would've been tooo much for me. Would've turned this into a ktrauma.

Kyeong Do's Mom

Kyeong Do's mom (played by Jo Nam-Sook, one of my favorite.. actually I think she's one of my favorite kdrama mom) is pretty relaxed. She's a deaconess who's works hard. Not overbearing. Kyeong is her only child and she's still married to kyeong do's dad.
